wedding photo in a garden full of tropical trees and plans with bride and groom leaning into one another as they kiss

I was so honored when Kelly reached out to me to capture his Los Angeles county wedding. I first met Kelly over 15 years ago when I worked on the Navy base in Port Hueneme. He was always fun to talk to and I’m so happy he finally found his perfect match in Mercedes! They’re so cute together, making capturing their wedding day even more fun!

Kelly and Mercedes shared some details with me about their wedding day, and here’s what they said:

What are you most looking forward to on the day?

We were most looking forward to sharing our day with those family members that have always supported us both individually and as a couple and those friends that are so close to us that the line between ‘family’ and ‘friend’ is blurred to the point where they feel one and the same!

What inspired your wedding décor?

We wanted to go for a look that was both classic and natural; not too many extravagant pieces however many smaller pieces that showed we were paying attention to the details. No overly exaggerated colors.

Did you have a theme in mind?

The only theme we had in mind was classic white with dusty blue accents.

Why did you pick the Los Angeles county wedding venues that you chose?

We chose the church because it is where we attend mass every Sunday and we have a close relationship to the members of the church and the Monsignor, Father Miranda. Additionally, we love the classic look of the church both internally and externally. We chose the Embassy Suites as the location for our reception because of the beauty of the lobby and center area, as well as the ability to handle all of our requirements for decorations, catering, set-up and breakdown via one single point of contact. Moreover, we loved the idea of having both the ceremony and the reception in our home town of Downey so we could recall the terrific memories whenever we drove past the venues.

What is your favorite feature about your Los Angeles county wedding venue?

Our favorite feature of the ceremony was the church itself. From the large doors and facade of the church to altar and it’s backdrop, we believed it to be a classic location for the Catholic wedding we wanted. Our favorite feature of the reception at Embassy Suites, Downey was the atrium in the center and the stairwell. We hoped both would provide awe-inspiring locations for photos!

Is there any particular vendor that you are really excited to have for your day?

Yes, our photographer…seriously, no joke! Early on in the planning process, we had agreed that we wouldn’t limit our budget when it came to selecting a photographer for the event. No matter what other vendor or expense we selected, none of it would matter if we didn’t choose the absolute best photographer we could afford to CAPTURE our one shining moment, our one instance when we were the focal point of our collective lives!

Tell us about the food/drink at your wedding.

We chose Embassy Suites because of their ability to provide quality catering and a quality bartender without having to look elsewhere for vendors to provide food or drinks to our guests. With regard to our meal, we wanted something not too filling yet flavorful. Our desserts were provided by a family friend after trying her desserts at a previous party. We did not want a traditional wedding cake, opting instead for multiple decadent desserts and a smaller, ceremonial cake for the traditional cake-cutting photos.

Which part of your wedding did you want to WOW your guests?

We wanted to showcase our love for one another, plain and simple. We weren’t overly worried about the amount of money we spent on the wedding or how expensive the material items that made up the wedding were…instead, we wanted our guests to look at us as a couple and see a reflection of their definition of love and commitment.
