How to Propose On the Beach in Malibu

There is nothing more romantic than a beach proposal, especially here in Malibu, CA. When Harsh contacted me about how to propose on the beach in Malibu, I was happy to help. Here are a few ideas for how to propose on the beach.

Plan a Surprise Proposal in Malibu

A surprise proposal is a surefire way to get a big reaction from your significant other. It can be so fun to plan the perfect activities and setting for your partner, and it can really show how well you know each other.

To do a surprise beach proposal, inform your partner of your beach visit ahead of time. Luckily, here in Malibu, it’s not too unusual to do a beach date, so your partner might not be very suspicious.

When Harsh proposed to Amaraja, she was caught completely off guard. With all the excitement, their photos turned out super cute and playful. I absolutely loved how playful they were together, it was really adorable!

Work with a Planner

Event planners like Ebeling Events are a great resource when you’re researching how to propose on the beach. They have a selection of products and packages to suit your expectations for this important moment. Event planners can also set up your location before you even arrive, so the whole process becomes really seamless on your end.

Kim from Ebeling Events helped Harsh find this beach location and also offered advice on how to propose on the beach in Malibu. She also set up the picnic which included the lanterns, candles, and pillows making a perfect combo that made the beach feel so cozy for this couple. The champagne was also a nice touch and added to the special feeling of the moment.

Beach Proposal Photography in Malibu

Of course, don’t miss capturing this important moment with proposal photography. It’s always fun to capture the minute they say “YES!”, but it can be even more fun to take romantic photos afterward. For Harsh and Amaraja, that dreamy beach fog rolled in for some truly lovely proposal photos.

An engagement photographer can be a great asset for your proposal, just knowing you have someone there supporting you can help ease some of the tension. And I’m good at keeping hidden until the right moment, or, I can provide a great excuse for the photography before you pop the question. Either way, you’ll be confident knowing how to propose on the beach in Malibu or anywhere!

Couple’s Portraits on the Beach

After the surprise is captured we can spend some time taking portraits of the two of you while you both still have that perfect amount of excitement. The images following the proposal are always more meaningful as your love for each other is even stronger after you pop the question!

Depending on the length of the session we might be able to add a second location. Planning this can be a little tricky though as one person is usually not aware of the details and they may want to have a different outfit to change into.

Once the session is over I highly recommend sharing a romantic evening at a nearby restaurant or celebrating the news with friends and family.

As a Malibu wedding photographer, I love every opportunity to help couples remember their proposal for the rest of their lives. While Malibu is a perfect choice for a surprise proposal, I’d also suggest venturing farther north to Ventura or Santa Barbara. Either way, you can’t go wrong with a gorgeous beach setting and a competent photographer to capture the moment.
